How it works

The U.S. Embassy-Riyadh is selling surplus movable property (SMP) via a Web Based Electronic Auction. Each auction will be activated for a period of time clearly stating the start and end date. This information is available on the information panel of the web application. Usually, it will be active from Sunday to Thursday lasting one week. During this period, you can actively take part and submit your bid for the surplus property. 

Maximum number of bids on one item is stated at each item. Increasing your bids is possible only in the local currency name. During the auction you should monitor your bids so you can react on all bids price development. 
Email for winners will consist of a link to the auction application where you can review your items, after a successful login.

To avoid retracting winning bids, please insure the following: 

• Winner must be available in Saudi Arabia and has a valid Saudi ID or Iqama.

• Please transfer all payments of the winning lots to the bank account mentioned in the How to Pay instructions no later than 24 hours from Auction closing date.

• Please E-mail the transfer copy or screen shot with clearly mentioning the winning Lot number to RiyadhOnlineAuction@state.gov (Emails will be sent to all winners instantly after closing the auction).

• If payment were not made within 24 hours, the winning bid maybe retracted, and the winner will be the next highest bidder with his offer. 

• Payments for vehicles must be made against each one if there are other won lots/payments, (one transfer for one vehicle).

• Some lots may have a maximum number of bids/offers that can be accepted.  

• The Auction Manager is authorized to retract a bid or suspend a lot in case of suspicious bids are detected. 

• All items are sold in “As is condition” with no warranty.

How to pay for your items

The successful bidders of the auction lots must deposit funds in SAR (Saudi Arabian Riyals) to the following account:

When making the payment by bank transfer contact the Auction Manager via e-mail RiyadhOnlineAuction@state.gov attaching your transfer information with won lot(s) details, the person picking up the items must present the original receipt from the money transfer with all required details or a printed version of the Internet banking money transfer, please mention the lot number for which the payment is being made.
Please refer to the section below (“How to pick up your items”) for instructions on how to pick up your items. The official U.S. Embassy receipt for payment will be sent to the successful bidder’s email address after the items have been picked up.

How to pick-up your items

The winning bidder or another person with a written authorization must pick up the items after closer of the auction from a location near the Diplomatic Quarter on a determined time later.  The exact location will be sent to winning bidders.  The sale will be voided if items are not picked up during one of these times. In special cases or circumstances, you may arrange a different pick-up date and time by contacting the auction manager via E-mail RiyadhOnlineAuction@state.gov.
In order to pick up the items, the winning bidders must send a copy of his/her Saudi ID/iqama, a copy of the Saudi ID/iqama of any person driving or assisting with the pick-up, and complete vehicle information (make, model, color, license plate number) at least 48 hours before the pick-up date.

After successful confirmation of payment for your items, our staff will move your items to the front of the storage building. From that time on, you are the owner of your merchandise. You will have the full responsibility for subsequent handling procedures and removal from Embassy property in a timely manner. If items are not removed in a timely manner, they may be considered abandoned and disposed of.
Winners are responsible of all arrangements of picking up their lots from embassy property, that includes manpower for loading lots to winner’s vehicle and transportation out of the embassy property. 

Important notice: For won vehicles, the process of transferring the ownership to the winner will take longer than the usual and may take 15-20 business days, as soon as the bidder wins a vehicle, the winner should provide a POC and location of the car dealer shop to schedule the delivery of the vehicle as soon as confirmation of payment is received. 

All ownership transfer fees and expenses (such as Saudi Traffic Dept. fees for Registration, Plates issuance, Transfer, Customs fees if any, Car Dealer Transfer fees, Insurance. etc.) are to be the responsibility of the winner and the United States Embassy will not be responsible for any government or non-government fees may be accrued during the process of the ownership transfer.
