How it works

The U.S. Embassies are selling surplus movable property (SMP) via a Web Based Electronic Auction. Each auction will be activated for a period of time clearly stating the start and end date. This information is available on the information panel of the web application. Usually it will be active from Monday to Friday lasting two weeks. During this period you can actively take part and submit your bid for the surplus property. 

The maximum number of bids on one item is stated for each item. Increasing your bids is possible only in the local currency name. During the auction, you should monitor your bids so you can react to all bid's price development. 

Lot winners on the Embassy Berlin Online-Auction can retrieve their goods at the following address during the designated times: Curtiusstrasse 64, 12205 Berlin

Please note the designated dates and times for collection on your winner’s e-mail.

Email for winners will consist of a link to the auction application where you can review your items, after successful login.

Terms and Conditions of Sale

1. By participating in the auction, you acknowledge that you have a greed to purchase items "as is - nonreturnable basis", without any refund, guarantee or warranty. All sales are final.

2. Auction winners who have failed to pay for items with three (3) working days may be refused participation in future auctions.

3. Receipt of sale will be issued after the payment is confirmed by the Embassy Cashier.

4. All arrangements and costs necessary to effect removal of the auction items are the responsibility of successful bidders.

5. In the event of a dispute as to the amount of a bid, the item or item number, the U.S. Government reserves the right to re-offer the property.

Note: Failure to comply with rules and delays will result in the inactivation of your account.


How to pay for your items

Payment for your items is possible only by bank money transfer to the Embassy bank account:

  1. In the item "Message for recipient" fill in word "Auction" and lot numbers you're paying for.

  2. In the item "Variable symbol" fill in your Unique Identification Number (UID) which can be found at "Winners info" auction website section.

  3. In the item "Amount" fill in the total amount in the local currency of your bid(s).

In the case you have bid and won more than one item you can pay the total amount due of all items in one payment but all lot items must be identified as described in item 1 above. Items can be retrieved only when successful payment has been received. Receipt of payment is considered complete when money reaches the U.S. Embassy bank account.

Note: It could take more than one day to transfer money from your bank to the U.S. Embassy bank. It will not be possible to pick up your items if your payment is not indicated on the U.S. Embassy bank account.


How to pick-up your items

To collect your purchased items, you must present either:

  • The original receipt of your bank transfer, including all required details as specified in the payment section above, or
  • A printed copy of your Internet banking transfer confirmation.

Additionally, please print your winner’s email or save it to your personal device, as this must be presented along with the listed lots as proof of purchase.

If someone else is collecting on your behalf, they must have:

  • Your written authorization, and
  • A copy of the printed winner’s email.

Important: Any items not collected during the scheduled pick-up time will be disposed of, with no possibility of retrieval. In exceptional circumstances, alternative pick-up arrangements may be made by contacting the auction manager in advance.

Once payment is successfully confirmed, our staff will move your items to the front of the storage building / out to the Embassy gate, where they will be available during your scheduled pick-up times. From that moment, you assume full ownership of your items and are responsible for subsequent handling procedures and timely removal from Embassy property. Items not collected within the scheduled time frame may be considered abandoned and will be disposed of.
