How it works

The Embassy of the United States of America is conducting an "Online Shipping Container Auction". Only one Shipping Container will be sold through this auction. The Auction will be held from Monday, April 22, 2024, to Thursday April 25, 2024. 

The first step of registration and bidding for the auction will be through the online auction portal at https://online-auction.state.gov, then you must click on "Register" at the top of the page and follow the instructions.

Viewing and Bidding: 

To complete your registration, interested buyers MUST also send an email with your first and last name. contact number, and a copy of your ID Card or passport to BrusselsAuctions@state.gov.  Again, bidding will be managed through our online auction site, but you must provide your ID and contact information to complete your registration and be eligible to bid. Anyone not in compliance will have their bids retracted. 

There will be no in-person viewing of the lots. 

The auction will open at 08:00 on Monday, April 22, 2024, and all bids must be submitted by 15:00 on Thursday April 25, 2024. 

Winners will receive an email notification directing you to login to view your winning lots.  Please send an email to BrusselsAuctions@state.gov and confirm your intent to purchase by 16.00 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. All items must be removed from our warehouse by Friday, May 10, 2024. 

Conditions: 

1.  The item/s are sold as-is.  The United States Government does not give any guarantee for the items sold. 

2.  The government reserves the right to withdraw any item from the sale for its own use before the sale opens. 

3.  The Government reserves the right to reject any submission which may be considered non-compliant with the value of the property or reject any submission when there is suspicion of collusion, complicity, or corruption. 

4.  Any applicable taxes are the buyer’s responsibility. 

5. Item/s must be removed with the purchaser’s own equipment and support.  US Embassy staff cannot load vehicles.  All items must be picked up by Friday, May 10, 2024. 



How to pay for your items

Payment for the lot (s) must be made to the BE85 0018 1407 5206 account, BIC code (SWIFT) GEBABEBB with number of the lot (s) in the “Communication” section not later than 16.00 on Friday May 03, 2024.  Please forward confirmation of payment immediately.  Not paid lots(s) by 16.00 on Friday May 03, 2024, will revert to the second-best offer.

In the case you have bid and won more than one lots, you can pay the total amount due of all items in one payment, but all lot numbers must be identified as described above. Items can be retrieved only when successful payment has been received. Receipt of payment is considered complete when money reaches the U.S. Embassy bank account.

Note: It could take more than one day to transfer money from your bank to the U.S. Embassy bank. It will not be possible to pick up your items if your payment is not indicated on the U.S. Embassy bank account.


How to pick-up your items

The warehouse is located at 13 Fabrieksstraat, 1930 Zaventem, Belgium

For the removal of lots, buyers must contact Mr. Frankie Van Dessel at +32473/603155 to set up a “removal of lot(s)” appointment as soon the payment is completed and confirmed by the US Embassy Brussels finance section. The removal of lot(s) takes place from Monday, May 06, 2024, to Friday May 10, 2024. In addition, driver, vehicle information and license plate are required to make an appointment.  All appointments are first come, first served. Please note that removal of lot(s) is authorize when payment of lot(s) is confirmed by the US Embassy Brussels, finance section.

The buyer is requested to appear only on the day and time scheduled by Mr. Van Dessel and to provide one or more vehicles with sufficient capacity to remove all lots being claimed in a single visit. In addition, the buyer must provide sufficient staff to load his / her lot(s).
