How it works

The U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur is selling surplus property via a Web Based Electronic Auction.

Maximum number of bids for each item is indicated on each lot.

Winning bidders will receive an email containing information on payment and pickup. 

IMPORTANT: All items are sold “As Is”. No warranties or refunds will be granted. All bids are binding commitments to purchase the item should you win the auction. Please do not place bids on any items that you do not wish to purchase and pick up. Payments must be made via bank transfer only. Include your winning lot numbers on the bank transfer. Please bring the original payment confirmation when picking up your items! If payment is not made within the allotted time period, the winning bid will be forfeited, and the item will be offered to the next highest bidder. Any winning bidder who fails to make payment or pick up their item(s) within the allotted time period may be prohibited from future auctions.

The successful bidder must pay for the vehicle between Friday, October 25th, 2024 and Friday, November 1, 2024. Payment can be made via bank transfer to the Embassy account. Embassy account information is made available as the winning bidder goes through the checkout process.

Pick up of the vehicle will take place at the Embassy, approximately 4 weeks after payment, as the Embassy must first obtain MFA approval to transfer the vehicle. The Embassy will coordinate an exact date and time with the successful bidder. If the Embassy is unable to obtain MFA approval to conduct the sale, the sale will be cancelled and all funds will be refunded.

The successful bidder will be responsible for their own registration, inspection, insurance, and other post-sale costs


How to pay for your items

The successful bidders of the auction lots can pay at the time of receiving the notification of winning items by depositing funds in RM (Malaysian ringgit) to the following account:

When making the payment by bank transfer, the person picking up the items must present the original receipt from the money transfer with all required details or a printed version of the Internet banking money transfer, please mention the lot number for which the payment is being made.

Please refer to the section below (“How to pick up your items”) for instructions on how to pick up your items. The official U.S. Embassy receipt for payment will be sent to the successful bidder’s email address after the items have been picked up. All items are sold in “As is condition” with no warranty and no refunds. 

Please make bank transfers within 72 hours of being notified of your winning lot/lots. This will allow time for the Embassy to confirm receipt of payments.  Pick-up is NOT allowed until payment is confirmed.

The Bank transfer should quote the Bidders Number as reference.

The proof of payment should be emailed to klfmcdbo@state.gov with the bidders reference number as the title.

Once the payment is confirmed, an official receipt will be emailed back for the item collection purposes.

How to pick-up your items

Pickup

In order to retrieve your items, you must present the original receipt of bank money transfer with all required details included in the payment paragraph above or a printed version of the internet banking money transfer.

All items must be paid for prior to picking up the vehicle from the US Embassy.

Pick up of the vehicle will take place at the Embassy, approximately 4 weeks after payment, as the Embassy must first obtain MFA approval to transfer the vehicle. The Embassy will coordinate an exact date and time with the successful bidder. If the Embassy is unable to obtain MFA approval to conduct the sale, the sale will be cancelled and all funds will be refunded.

Any paid items that are not picked up during the scheduled time frame will be disposed of. In special circumstances, you may arrange for a different pick-up date and time by contacting the auction manager at KLGSOAuction@state.gov.

All items need to be picked up at our Embassy which is located @ 376, Jalan Tun Razak, 50400 Kuala Lumpur.

We will not assist to ship any vehicles locally or internationally.

The vehicle was imported to Malaysia duty-free under diplomatic privileges, therefore an import duty liability of 23,599.14 RM due to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department remains on the vehicle. The duty is to be paid separately by the buyer to Customs. For example, if the winning auction bid is 30,000 RM, then the buyer’s total price is 53,599.14 RM (30,000 to the US Embassy and 23,599 to Customs).
Certain diplomatic personnel may be eligible for a waiver on the import duty. Please confirm your waiver eligibility with your own respective foreign embassy or high commission. It is the buyer’s responsibility to request the duty waiver from Customs, if eligible.
Payment of the vehicle will take place in two parts. The winning bidder must pay the amount of the winning auction bid to the US Embassy between Friday, October 25th and Friday, November 1st, 2024. Payment can be made via bank transfer to the US Embassy account.
