Eligibility to Purchase
These vehicles may be purchased exclusively by accredited diplomats in Argentina. It is the sole responsibility of each potential buyer to confirm their eligibility. Certain personnel, such as some A&T staff, may not qualify to purchase a second diplomatic vehicle. Local staff from any foreign mission are not eligible.

Timing
Once bids are accepted and selected buyers are notified, the estimated timeline is as follows:

  • Up to 45 days for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to approve the transfer.

  • An additional 15 days for the issuance of license plates.

Please note that the buyer’s mission must request the new plates. Buyers may take possession of the vehicle only after MFA approval is granted.

Vehicle Condition
Vehicles will be available for in-person inspection. All units are sold “as is.” Generally, the vehicles are in good mechanical condition and remain operational. They have been part of official fleets and have received professional, routine maintenance throughout their service life.

Diplomatic Status of the Vehicles
These vehicles are in Argentina under diplomatic franchises and cannot be sold into the local market. Buyers are responsible for either reselling the vehicle to another accredited diplomat or exporting it at the end of their tour.

How to pay for your items

In addition to the sales price established through the auction, the buyer is responsible for paying a customs broker fee, which is approximately USD $200. Buyers may select their own customs broker, or the U.S. Embassy can recommend one.

Payments to the U.S. Embassy must be made in USD via pay.gov. Additional instructions will be provided after the auction.

How to pick-up your items

The buyer will take physical possession of the vehicle approximately 60 days into the process, once the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) approves the transfer. At that point, the buyer is responsible for insuring the vehicle; however, the buyer is not permitted to drive the vehicle until the entire process is completed.
